    • This talk explores the paradigm of Software-Defined Networks (SDN), focusing on their distinctive architecture that segregates the control plane from the data plane. The separation introduces advantages like centralized management, infrastructure flexibility, and programmability. However, this architectural innovation also introduces security challenges due to the communication requirements between the separated planes.  A particular security concern addressed in this talk is the vulnerability of SDN to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The talk delves into existing state-of-the-art solutions that propose various strategies to mitigate the impacts of DDoS attacks on SDNs. Despite advancements, certain challenges persist, such as the centralization of actions (detection and mitigation) in the control plane. This centralization can lead to delays and overloads. Additionally, indiscriminate blocking of traffic remains an issue, penalizing legitimate traffic. The presentation aims to provide insights into these challenges and potential avenues for further refinement in SDN security, offering a comprehensive understanding of the existing landscape and potential future developments. Additionally, this talk will present the research initiatives being developed at the COMNET laboratory at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Brasília.
